Categories of Students
Students admitted to the College study under the following categories:
- Degree students : students working toward a degree, either full or part-time; (essays, exams, etc.) ;
- Non-degree students : students seeking credits for transfer to another institution or those auditing a course for personal development;
- Attendance to classes as an auditor may be certified by the College upon request.
Applications for admission
Requests for admission to full-time studies, in view of seeking university credits or as an auditor, must be addressed to the Office of the Registrar., where forms and all necessary information about application requirements are available. Applications must be submitted before March 1” They are evaluated by the Admission Committee and recommended to the College’s Direction. Registration takes place on the first day of the academic year in september, from 8:30 am.
Applications for part-time studies must be sent to the College Secretariat at least one week prior to the beginning of classes, whether the course is taken for credit or as an auditor. Registration take place at the Secretariate before the beginning of the course. (Office 206)

Admission requirements
Basic admission requirements for undergraduate studies.
Ontario
- High School diploma or the equivalent, with a minimum of 6 4U or 4M courses.
- One English or French course allowing the student to understand course content and to write essays.
Quebec
- A minimum of 12 CEGEP courses. An minimum average of 70% is required, but does not garantee admission.
- High school diploma with 5 secondaire V courses. A minimum average of 85% is required, but does not garantee admission.
Provinces other than Ontario and Quebec
- High school diploma, with five grade 12 courses (for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Saskatchewanlevel [30-39 course] and Manitoba [level 40 course]), with 9 level 3000 credits for Newfoundland. These general requirements apply to undergraduate studies of the Department of Philosophy and the Faculty of Theology. Please note that these are minimum requirements that can be subject to modifications. They do not garantee admission.
- One English or French course allowing the student to understand course content and to write essays.
University Transfer
Students registered at another university or college and wishing to apply to an undergraduate program in Philosophy or Theology can submit an application form. Students are evaluated on the basis of their high school and post secondary education. Equivalences can be attributed on the basis of previous courses and results. Candidates must supply the registrar’s office with all the necessary documents for evaluation of their file.
To obtain a Dominican University College Diploma, students must have obtained a minimum of two thirds of their credits at the College. This last requirement limits the number of credits that may be recognized as an equivalence.
Special Students
Special students are allowed by the College to register to undergraduate courses either for obtaining credits or as auditors, but are not studying to obtain a degree from the College. To be admitted, students must have the basic requirements for university studies, and:
- Have a high school diploma with an minimum average of 65% or the equivalent;
Or
- For mature applicants:
- have not studied full time in the last two years
- offer garanties of successful sudies
- meet all the particular requirements for the Faculty or Department..
A candidate to the special student status can to take a course at the College in order to obtain credits for a degree in an other post secondary institution. In this case, the student must present a letter of permission or an official agreement letter from the institution of origin during registration.
A gifted student in his or her last year of high school can apply as a special student for a maximum of 6 credits/year while completing high school studies. This requires a written recommentation from the high school direction.
Special students can register to a maximum of six credits per term. This includes all courses taken as an auditor.
The College reserves the right to evaluate competencies and cancel or reject registrations if required. In addition, various documents and admission conditions may be required according to the type of studies undertaken (see categories below).
Special students are required to follow the same general and Faculty rules as regular students pertaining to class attendance, written work, exams, retest, grading, academic fraud, tuition payment, library access, etc.
Mature applicants
A candidate not meeting normal requirements can submit an application as mature applicant, under the following conditions: be over 21, have Canadian citizenship or be a Canadian resident; have not studied full time for over one year; offer guaranties of academic success; meet the Faculty of Theology or the Department of Philosophy special requirements.
Home schooling
Applications from candidates having studied at home are evaluated individually. A description of the program of studies as well as the results must be provided with the application.
Required documents
Unless otherwise indicated, documents sent to the Registrar become property of the Dominican University College and are not returned to candidates. To insure confidentiality, documents are destroyed if the candidates don't register for the chosen term, unless otherwise agreed with the Registrar.
Candidates are responsible of making sure that the Dominican University College obtains all the required documents before the due date.
- Transcripts
- All transcripts for completed postsecondary studies (transcripts from foreign institutions must be originals supplied with an official translation).
- High school or collegial transcripts for candidates not holding a post secondary degree.
- Additional documents for mature applicants
- Any person wishing to apply as a mature applicant must submit the following documents:
- A resume;
- Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status;
- A personal declaration.
Language requirements
A written exam will be required for candidates whose mother tongue is other than English, wishing to pursue studies in English or who haven't studied full time in English for at least three years in Canada or another country where English is an official language.

Procedure
- We certify reception of all application sent with a valid e-mail address.
- Only complete applications will be evaluated.
- Incomplete applications will be cancelled.
- Meeting basic admission requirements does not guarantee admission.
- The admission is only valid for the program, year and term indicated. They can only be modified with approval of the Registrar.
Decision
- A decision will be taken at the earliest possible date, as soon as all the required information has been received at the Registrar's office.
- Offers of admission for applicants currently registered in a Canadian high school are normally sent beginning in early March.
- Offers of admission to CEGEP applicants are normally sent beginning in mid-March.
- Offers of admission to applicants with post-secondary studies, mature applicants and other categories of applicants are normally sent beginning at the end of March.
- Many admission decisions are made based on interim marks and are often conditional. Take the time to read the conditions of your offer carefully to ensure that you understand them and that you are able to fulfill them before registration.
E-mail correspondence
Please include a valid e-mail address on your application to allow the Registrar's office to communicate quickly and efficiently with you during and after the admission process.
Confidentiality policy
Applying to the Dominican University College entitles the institution to obtain personal information necessary to determining admissibility. Information provided with the application is part of the student's permanent file. The College's confidentiality policy prohibits divulging any decision or information pertaining to a personal file to a person other than that concerned. The College takes all reasonable measures to protect the confidential and private information provided, and shall not divulge it unless it is required by law.
